RACE

Super Aguri F1's fighting spirit was challenged once again as the team endured a difficult race at the Shanghai International Circuit. Changeable weather and track conditions during the Chinese Grand Prix produced a few surprise results which dramatically changed the order of the constructors’ championship with only one race to go.

Takuma Sato:

“ It was an exciting but tough race for us. I made a good start, gaining a few positions and it was exciting overtaking in the wet conditions. But, within a few laps, we had a mechanical problem and, from then on, the car was bouncing quite a lot. I immediately radioed to the team, but there was nothing we could do. With the changing conditions, I was able to catch a few cars ahead, but we just weren’t quick enough to overtake. Thankfully, we were able to finish, but the car handling was far from ideal which made it an even more difficult race for me. ”

QUALIFYING

It was a day of differing fortunes for Super Aguri drivers Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson in Shanghai, with the Briton again getting the best of the fortune. While Davidson took his SA07 into Q2, Takuma Sato endured a more difficult day and will start the Chinese Grand Prix from 20th position on the grid.

Takuma Sato:

“ I am very unhappy with the car as I could not get any bite. I could not generate any grip throughout the session and tried various things in an attempt to rectify this, but we never solved the problem and then ran out of running time. We then felt that we needed to make a radical set-up change to try to improve the performance for the qualifying session, however the result was the same, there was no bite. There is very little that we can do before the race tomorrow, but we really need to understand what the problem is. ”

PRACTICE

Despite the quick turnaround after last weekend's Japanese race, the Super Aguri F1 team experienced a trouble-free Friday in Shanghai and completed its planned testing programmes for the Chinese Grand Prix during two free practice sessions.

Takuma Sato:

“ I think that it was a reasonable day. I had a bit of traffic on my quick run, but I believe that we have collected a fair amount of data from an aero back-to-back evaluation and also a few long runs on both tyres, which was encouraging. We have quite a lot of information to go through this evening which will hopefully allow us to improve on our performance tomorrow. ”
