Sato Posts Third-Quickest Lap in Gateway Practice 1
2023-08-27
Takuma Sato hit the ground running in his return to the No. 11 Deloitte Honda today, registering the third-fastest lap (179.206 mph) in the opening practice session at World Wide Technology Raceway. Sato's fastest average speed, set on his 33rd of 42 total laps, was just 0.1163 seconds away from the session's top mark.
INDYCAR was forced to postpone today's qualifying session and push back Practice 1 to the evening, as rain persisted throughout the morning and afternoon.

"It's nice to be back in the car and working through things even 'only' at 190 miles per hour, but this track can be very challenging. We worked through the program in a limited time and I think we made good progress. Hopefully, we can compete tomorrow, but it was a good day with my teammates and there's a very positive feeling after practice."
