RACE

Takuma Sato made a good start at the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday and battled his way through for most of the 44-lap race. In the end he finished 15th having started from 18th on the grid.

His performance impressed Super Aguri's sporting director, Graham Taylor, who said that 'although they did not have a super competitive car, the racer in Taku still showed through'.

Takuma Sato:

“ It was a good race, under the difficult circumstances. I made up a few places at the start, but on the Kemmel straight, when I was side by side with a Toro Rosso, I was pushed off and so had to run on the ‘green’ and lost a lot of momentum. I then had to keep battling to make up my lost positions, but I had fun doing it and had some exciting moments. That shows how great the Spa circuit is for Formula One; that there are overtaking opportunities and that it’s a challenging circuit. It’s just a shame that we did not have the speed today, and that was frustrating. However, all-in-all I think that we have a taken a few positive notes here before we head off to the Japanese Grand Prix. ”

QUALIFYING

Takuma Sato continued to struggle with the Super Aguri SA07 on day two of the 2007 Belgian Grand Prix weekend, dropping out in the opening pahse of qualifying after trying to refine the handling of the car in third practice.

Takuma Sato:

“ The car had improved a bit this morning with the changes made over night and the team worked really hard with the data collected yesterday. I was happier with the balance today, but we knew it was going to be a tough session. It’s such a shame that we could not introduce more performance in qualifying. I just hope that tomorrow everything turns into a positive for us. ”

PRACTICE

The sound of Formula One cars made a welcome return to Spa-Francorchamps, with the Super Aguri team getting its first competitive taste of the picturesque, undulating track nestled deep in the Ardennes. However, it was not quite the return that Takuma Sato was hoping for…

Takuma Sato:

“ We struggled to find a good balance today. It's so different from our last visit here at the test over a month ago. We didn't maximise or make the most of the tyres for the short or long runs, so I think we need to work quite hard overnight. We collected very valuable data, but we couldn’t do as many laps as we wanted as our running was quite restricted. I hope that we can improve our performance for us to be able to have a better day tomorrow. ”
