RACE

Both Super Aguri F1 drivers encountered engine trouble during an extremely demanding Bahrain Grand Prix and, for the first time since the 2006 German Grand Prix, neitehr of the team's cars saw the chequered flag.

Takuma Sato:

“ Today was not a good day for us. I made a very positive race start and moved up some places, but I was struggling for grip once again. The car was very unstable throughout the race, so I was really struggling and I felt power loss from the engine halfway through. Obviously, in the end, we had some kind of engine failure and it was a shame that we couldn’t finish the race. However, the team did a great job over these first three flyaway races and I think we have to go back a long time to when we last did not finish a race. ”

QUALIFYING

Super Aguri F1 maintained its recent performance momentum and had one of its cars make the cut into Q2 at the Bahrain GP. However, in a reversal of fortune, it was Anthony Davidson who ended up better placed as Takuma Sato experienced lower grip levels than expected on his way to 17th.

Takuma Sato:

“ It is disappointing that I did not get into Q2 today. We completed positive work in the morning and made the car good with regard to race pace in the long run situation, but I could not introduce that pace into qualifying. It is a shame that I did not have good grip, had a slide and lost time. For me, the grip level was lower than expected, but I believe that I have strong race pace, so hopefully I will be able to make up some positions. ”

PRACTICE

Following a night of heavy electrical storms in Sakhir, the Bahrain International Circuit was very ‘green’ for first free practice, but Super Aguri's Takuma Sato made encouraging progress in sorting his SA07 in the afternoon session.

Takuma Sato :

“ It was a good first day. We have maintained our momentum from last week in terms of long run pace, and also from the test here before the opening race, when we tried a lot of SA07 aero configurations. I am happy with the consistency of the car, but we will work on increasing our speed for tomorrow. ”
