RACE

Takuma Sato made a great start to the Turkish Grand Prix, only to encounter an incident in front of him at turn one and then receive substantial damage to his car from a rear impact. He returned to the pits, where the Super Aguri team repaired his SA06, enabling him to rejoin the race, albeit 16 laps down.

Takuma Sato:

"It has been another challenging weekend for the team. Obviously, we knew that, if we took the decision to bring the new suspension here, we would have completed very little running before qualifying and the race, but I think that, considering our chassis-related problems yesterday, we have managed well this weekend. At the start of the race, I overtook at least two or three cars going through to turn one but, unfortunately, somebody ran into the back of my car, so I took quite a lot of damage to the chassis and the rear tyre and came back to the pits. Quite a few laps down, we got back out on to the track after the mechanics did a fantastic job in such a short amount of time. Unfortunately, the car wasn't fully repaired, so I struggled a lot for the rest of the race, but at least we have collected some very important data for the new suspension. We will bring this car to Monza for the test next week and hopefully we are able to have a good race at the next grand prix."

QUALIFYING

Super Aguri F1 was unable to repeat its free practice form in qualifying and will see Takuma Sato and Sakon Yamamoto line up in 22nd and 21st positions for the Turkish Grand Prix after searing heat and a lack of testing in the new SA06 made it difficult to find the optimum set-up for Istanbul Park. A major chassis problem also rendered Taku unable to improve on his fastest lap of the weekend.

Takuma Sato:

"It is a disappointing result. We had a new front suspension on my car today and, this morning, we made good progress during the session with only a small issue towards the end. In qualifying, however, we had a major chassis-related problem which caused me to struggle with the handling and I therefore could not set a good lap time. I have a good feeling from the SA06 from this morning's session, however, so I hope that we can have a good race tomorrow."

PRACTICE

The Super Aguri F1 team introduced its third SA06 chassis at the Turkish Grand Prix, with Franck Montagny rejoining Takuma Sato and Sakon Yamamoto in the line-up. The team experienced just one problem all day, allowing all three drivers to make progress.

Takuma Sato:

"It was a very important day for us, to shakedown the SA06. We did not encounter any major problems, which is great. Franck completed a respectable amount of running with a few set-up changes and collected valuable tyre data. I was relying on that as I did not run in the first session, as we had planned. During the second session, we ran the normal installation lap to check that everything was okay and then ran through our planned programme. The car seems to be working well and, if everything is okay when we look at the SA06’s data tonight, we will continue to update the car tomorrow."
