RACE

Takuma Sato brought home his SA05 home to finish the Spanish Grand Prix in 17th position but, despite claiming the Super Aguri team's first finish in Europe this season, Taku was still disappointed.

Takuma Sato:

"It was good to finish a race again-our first since we have come back to Europe. I had a difficult start, as I was side-by-side with Monteiro when he forced me to run wide in the dirt and I lost a lot of momentum. Into turn one, I regained position under braking and overtook a few cars but, because the tyres were covered in dust and in a bad condition, I lost it into turn four. After that, I was struggling with oversteer and I was just following the car in front when I lost it again. After we made an adjustment at the first pit-stop, the car felt much better and I was able to do a good run for the rest of the race."

QUALIFYING

Takuma Sato again separated the Midland F1 cars in final free practice, giving the entire Super Aguri team confidence for qualifying at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Takuma Sato:

"We had a very smooth morning and made good progress during the practice session. Qualifying was also encouraging. The conditions were relatively difficult as I had low grip and encountered traffic before the red flag stopped the session. However, during the second run, I had a clear track and was able to set a similar lap time to the one I set in practice, so I am happy. The gap between our times and the Midlands’ is getting smaller, so things are starting to get exciting for the team."

PRACTICE

Takuma Sato enjoyed plenty of track time as his Super Aguri car performed reliably on the opening day of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend, but the weather played an important role as a wet and cloudy morning caused the dusty track to become greasy, whilst the afternoon at least brought some sunshine, but very different track surface conditions.

Takuma Sato:

"We did not do much running this morning due to the weather conditions but, towards the end of that session and by the end of the second session, we had completed our full programme. We did some performance runs and it was encouraging to see that the balance of the car has improved and that the lap time and speed was much better, so we are happy with what we have been able to achieve today."
