RACE

Takuma Sato was left with it all to do in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone after accidentally pressing the wrong button on his steering wheel during the formation lap meaning he had to start from the pitlane, two laps down on the rest of the field. It was his only mistake of the weekend, and Takuma was then on a one-stop race strategy to finish an eventual sixteenth.

Takuma Sato

"The simple fact is that as I was going through the start procedure on the way to the grid, I hit the wrong button on the steering wheel as I was warming up the tyres. I would like to apologise to everyone in the team, everyone who got the car ready and put so much preparation into the British Grand Prix this weekend. I couldn't deliver the result we wanted and could have had today. The team did a great job to get me back in the race and I tried my best but was so far behind that I couldn't do anything. It's been a tough year for us all and we can only continue to keep trying and aim for better things in the second half of the season."

QUALIFYING

Takuma Sato put in a solid effort in Saturday’s running for the British Grand Prix with a sixth place in the first session with a 1min 22.389secs, a 14th place in the next session with a 1min 21.931secs and a 1min 21.114secs in qualifying the eighth fastest time in the session, but which means a seventh place on the starting grid for the race after Kimi Raikkonen’s penalty.

Takuma Sato

"We had a small balance issue this morning which meant that I couldn't do any good laps on new tyres, and this affected my preparation. I am pleased that we were able to sort this out and put in a solid lap for qualifying. I still struggled with grip through the high-speed corners, as expected, but it's nice to be able to show a reasonable pace. My aim this weekend is to score points and I certainly think we can do that from here."

2005-7-8 FRI

PRACTICE

Friday saw Takuma Sato working with the BAR-Honda team on its usual set-up and tyre selection programme for the race weekend with both Takuma and team-mate Jenson Button used the same engines as used in the French Grand Prix. Taku’s running in the second session was shortened by an electrical problem.

Takuma Sato

"Today has been a difficult start to the weekend on my side. I struggled with low grip - especially with the front end of the car. In fact, it was very surprising to me to have such little grip and I struggled a lot during the day because of this. In the end, I had an electrical problem and because I was then stuck in the pits I was unable to complete any tyre testing. We need to find out what caused the balance problems now and I hope for better things tomorrow."
